FAQs

1. What are the advantages of the Noviplex Plasma Prep Card?
a. Collect blood samples anytime and anywhere.
b. Noviplex stabilizes blood samples faster than any other technique including venipuncture. This is important because metabolite concentrations change in minutes when blood is drawn.
c. Unlike dried blood spot cards, Noviplex collects a precise volume of plasma and there is no hematocrit effect.

2. What applications are suitable with the Noviplex Card?
a. Analysis of amino acids and other metabolites
b. Plasma protein identification and quantification with an MRM approach
c. Analysis of steroids and vitamins
d. Analysis of immunosuppresants
e. Analysis of drugs of abuse and pain killers
f. Analysis of inorganic ions

3. How does one collect ten microliters or more of plasma
Collect two blood samples. One with Noviplex Duo and the other with standard Noviplex Card. This generates three plasma discs containing about 10,5 μL of plasma.

4. What is the size of the collection disc?
The plasma collection discs are 6.4 mm in diameter or a quarter of an inch.
5. How much blood should be applied to the Noviplex Cards?
a. The standard Noviplex Card requires 30 to 60 μL of whole blood
b. The Noviplex Duo Card requires 60 to 80 μL of whole blood

5. How much blood should be applied to the Noviplex Cards?
a. The standard Noviplex Card requires 30 to 60 μL of whole blood
b. The Noviplex Duo Card requires 60 to 80 μL of whole blood

6. What types of mass spectrometry are compatible with Noviplex Cards?
a. Single Quad LC/MS
b. Tandem Quad LC/MS/MS
c. ESI/TOF
d. MALDI/TOF
e. QTOF
f. Ion Trap
g. OrbiTrap
h. Inductively Coupled Plasma/MS

7. How do I use an isotope labeled standard with a Noviplex analysis?
Place the dry plasma disc in a 2 mL polypropylene tube. Add at least 50 μL of extraction solvent to the tube. Add 10 μL of an isotopic standard. Vortex for at least 2 minutes.

8. Do the Noviplex Cards work with other analytical techniques? – YES
a. ELISA
b. PCR
c. QPCR
d. Enzymatic
e. Colorimetric

9. What extraction solvents work with the Noviplex plasma collection disc?
a. Dilute formic acid with 100% methanol for small hydrophilic compounds
b. 1% formic acid in water for very hydrophilic compounds such as small, organic acids
c. 1% formic acids with 80% methanol for hydrophilic compounds such as tryptophan

10. How do I prepare a quality control sample?
Add an known amount of an isotopic variant to freshly collected whole blood and store cold for no more than two weeks. The isotope labeled standard should differ in mass from the isotope standard added to the extraction solvent for quantification.
